After the Government of India launched the vaccination campaign for adolescents in the age group of 15 to 18 years, Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) All the schools affiliated to the board have been asked to encourage the parents, guardians to get their children vaccinated at the earliest.
In an official statement, CISCE said, “For students in classes 10 and 12, this (vaccination) will ensure their safety and security, while going to school, either for attending classes, for doing practical work.” , Leaving the safe confines of your homes, do practical work or appear for semester 2 examinations.”
It comes before the term 2 exam. CISCE has conducted Term 1 exam amid protests. After the announcement of making the examinations online, the council took a U-turn and conducted the examination in offline mode. Many students had asked to conduct the exam in hybrid mode but it was not accepted. Term 2 exam dates are yet to be announced.
Immunization for adolescents was launched on 3 January and 40 lakh or more than four million adolescents have received vaccination by the end of 3 January. Children have the option to choose between Covaxin and Zydus Cadil’s anti-COVID ZyCoV-D. Children with an interval of 28 days between the first and second doses will be given two doses of Covaxin. The vaccine dose for children would be 0.5 ml, the same as for adults.
Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had also earlier said, “I request students going to schools and colleges to get vaccinated and motivate others to do the same. It will oppose you and other people.”
The Health and Welfare Minister had also said, “Good morning young India! Over 40 lakh people in the age group 15-18 received their first dose of #COVID19 vaccine till 8 pm on the first day of the Children’s Immunization Campaign. This is yet another achievement at the top of India’s vaccination campaign.”
While schools are organizing awareness camps for children and parents, it is the children who are not part of the formal education system that are of concern.
