Class 10 English paper on social media, source identified: West Bengal board chief

Three of the 16 pages of the question paper were uploaded on WhatsApp and circulated thereafter, an hour and a half after the three-hour exam began at 12 noon on February 24.

The persons who had uploaded the image of some pages of the English question paper of class 10th West Bengal Board Exam in Malda district were identified and the details of the findings were shared with the appropriate authorities for follow up action.

Announcing this, the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education Nine mobile phones, including seven from Malda district, were seized during the board examinations that began on February 23 and ended on Saturday, WBBSE president Ramanujan Ganguly said on Saturday.

However, he did not specify from whom the mobiles were seized and whether any device was used to upload the images.

“The origin of the childish prank was traced to an examination center in Malda. We have traced the source of the three pages circulating on social media. However, we cannot go beyond this as we are not an investigating agency.

He said that information was shared with the Malda district administration for the cyber crime department to go deeper into the matter.

“We have failed to understand what such acts would lead to in the long run. It was an act of mindlessness that would have no consequences. But with electronic monitoring having stringent restrictions, any such misconduct is quickly detected. can be traced and this should serve as a wake-up call to any conspirator,” said the WBBSE chief.

He said that barring this one act of “sabotage”, the exam was conducted smoothly.

Regarding the graph sheets not being distributed to the examinees along with the Mathematics question paper, he said that the board will see that the interest of the students is not affected.

In response to a question, he said that none of the teachers who lost their jobs on the orders of the Calcutta High Court in connection with the SSC recruitment scam had the necessary experience in evaluating answer sheets for the examinations conducted by the WBBSE.

Ganguly said that the board has set a deadline of May this year to publish the exam results. Altogether 6,98,627 candidates appeared in the Class 10 State Board Exam.
