The Water Resources Department and the Chennai Corporation have started work on flood prevention along the Kosthaliyar river in areas like Manali.
Chief Minister MK Stalin on Monday visited flooded areas on the banks of Kosthalaiyar river like Manali New Town. The area was flooded for several days after the recent rains. Over 450 residents were accommodated in flood shelters of the Greater Chennai Corporation. Many residents have been affected by the floods. The total number of flood affected families will be estimated soon.
Officials said water has receded in such areas.
As the floods in northern parts of Chennai, including the Manali region, were caused by release of water from Poondi and Red Hills reservoirs, the chief minister ordered officials to start work on prevention of floods in the low-lying areas of the river.

Officials of the Chennai Corporation and the Water Resources Department have already started flood mitigation work in the Buckingham Canal in North Chennai. Areas like Kodungaiyur were flooded during the recent rains.
