on Saturday, BJP announces first list of candidates For the upcoming Uttar Pradesh assembly elections. While Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will contest from Gorakhpur Urban, Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya will contest from Sirathu constituency.
CM Yogi Adityanath – Gorakhpur Urban
The announcement put an end to speculation that CM Yogi Adityanath was planning to contest from Ayodhya. CM Yogi Adityanath served as MP from Gorakhpur constituency for five consecutive terms from 1998 to 2017.
The current MLA of this constituency is Radha Mohan Das Agarwal of BJP. He is an MLA from Gorakh Urban since 2002 and won in 2017 by over 60,000 votes.

During this, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav said on development, “It was earlier said that he [Adityanath] Will contest from Mathura, Prayagraj, Ayodhya or Deoband. I am glad that BJP has already sent him home. [Gorakhpur],
Keshav Prasad Maurya – Sirathu
Reacting to his candidature, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya thanked PM Modi for making him the BJP candidate from Sirathu, his birthplace.
“I express my heartfelt gratitude to the Prime Minister for making me the party’s candidate from Sirathu, my birthplace,” he wrote.

Presently the MLA from Sirathu is Sheetla Prasad of BJP.
Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister did not contest the 2017 elections
Both Yogi Adityanath and Keshav Prasad Maurya did not contest the 2017 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections. Both of them were elected MPs at that time. They Contested by-elections to the State Legislative Council To remain in office in 2017.
The Uttar Pradesh assembly elections will be held in seven phases in February and March 2022. Counting of votes will take place on March 10.
