Police arrested a sixth person early in the morning on Thursday, October 27, 2022, for his alleged involvement in car blast in front of sangameshwar temple On 23 October at Kottamedu, Coimbatore.
The accused has been identified as 28-year-old Afsar Khan, a resident of Vincent Road. Jamisha Mubeen, the suspected mastermind of the blast who died of burns in the explosion.
Sources close to the investigation said that Khan played a key role in the entire conspiracy by sourcing the raw materials needed to make the explosives.
Khan is alleged to have procured some raw materials from e-commerce websites.
Following the explosion, a search of Mubeen’s residence on 23 October revealed large quantities of raw materials such as potassium nitrate, aluminum powder, sulfur and charcoal.
A senior police officer said Khan also helped Mubeen in assembling some raw materials, who were later taken to three small boxes with nails and marbles in the car that exploded. The car also had two LPG cylinders, one of which exploded.

On Wednesday, police searched Khan’s residence and seized a laptop cyber cell examined. It is suspected that he used the device to order raw materials online.
Meanwhile the police started Interrogation of five other accusednamely Muhammad Thalha, 25, Muhammad Azharuddin, 23, Muhammad Rias, 27, Firoz Ismail, 27, and Muhammad Nawaz Ismail, 27. The fifth judicial magistrate court on Wednesday granted three days’ custody of five people to police for questioning.
