Colleges asked to deposit tuition fees fixed in 2018

Lieutenant Governor Tamilisai Sundararajan has issued an order directing private medical colleges in Puducherry to deposit the prescribed tuition fees in 2018.

The order was issued after the Pondicherry State Students and Parents Welfare Association objected to the decision of the current fee committee headed by retired Justice T. Sudandiram of Madras High Court to hike the fee for the current academic year. The Fee Committee, in its meetings held in October, decided to revise the fee structure for MBBS/BDS/B.Sc Nursing/B.Pharm courses for three years starting from the 2021-22 academic year. In an order issued last week, the Lt Governor said, “In the larger interest of the students and in the fact that medical colleges are conducting classes in hybrid mode, both offline and online, the continuation of the fee prescribed by the committee in the earlier academic year 2021- 22 may not be harmful to the institution.

Therefore, the fee fixed by the earlier committee will remain the same. In 2018, it had earmarked ₹3.80 lakh for government-sponsored students in private medical colleges, said association president V. Balasubramaniam said.
