Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has announced that there will be no new constitution of committee for textbook review. According to the report of news agency ANI, this step has been taken amid controversy over textbook revision. CM Bommai on Friday said the committee has been dissolved as the work for which it was nominated is over.
The minister, however, said that the government is ready for further revision of textbooks in case of any objectionable material. “There is no question of constitution of a new committee for textbook review. We will discuss with the saints who have written me letters about Basavanna and the phrases related to Basavanna, I have already said that our Basava path (path) is the government,” CM Bommai told the news agency.

Earlier, several people, including some prominent personalities, had objected to the state government’s move to revise a chapter on 12th-century reformist Basavanna in Class 10 Kannada and social science text books.
According to a section of seers, he had alleged that the revised Kannada and social science textbooks of Class 10 students distorted the teachings of social reformer Basavanna. He also accused the review committee of insulting the state anthem written by poet Kuvempu.
The Karnataka government later issued a clarification that the distorted state anthem was not part of any Karnataka Board textbook. It ordered the cyber crime department to investigate the allegations and take necessary action in this regard.

CM Bommai also announced that a chapter on Kempe Gowda, the founder of Bengaluru, has been added to the textbook.
Last month, a controversy had surfaced alleging several errors in revision of textbooks in the syllabus of the state board. There was also a demand to sack the chairman of the review committee, Rohit Chakratirth. A committee was formed under the chairmanship of Chakratirtha to examine and revise school textbooks. Now it has been dissolved.
