Communal clash erupts again in Gujarat’s Himmatnagar, 4 detained

At least four people were detained by the police after people belonging to two different communities were involved in stone pelting in Himmatnagar town of Gujarat’s Sabarkantha district.

Police said the incident took place on the night of April 12 in Vanjarawas area.

In some videos shared on social media, some people can be seen throwing petrol bombs in other areas.

According to Superintendent of Police Vishal Kumar Vaghela, it was a minor stampede and tear gas shells were also used to disperse the crowd.

“After learning about the conflict, we reached the spot and took the situation under control. We have detained four people from the spot. The flare-up was minor and the situation was brought under control soon,” said Mr. Vaghela. PTI,

Earlier on Sunday, Himmatnagar town witnessed violence, stone pelting and clashes between two communities following stone pelting on Ram Navami procession.

To prevent such incidents, the District Collector has invoked Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), which prohibits gathering of more than 5 people in some sensitive areas of the city, including Chhapariya area, where arson and stone pelting have taken place.
