New Delhi: After continuing to dominate the segment with over 2.5 lakh SUV sales in 2021, Hyundai Motor India This year looks to maintain its leadership in the segment as demand for models like Creta and Location According to a senior company official, remains strong. The company sold 1.8 lakh SUVs in 2020 and has closed 2021 with a dispatch of 2.52 lakh units.
SUV sales are increasing rapidly in the country.
In 2020, SUVs accounted for about 29 percent of total passenger vehicle sales. This share has grown to 37 per cent in 2021.
In conversation with PTI Hyundai Tarun Garg, Director (Sales, Marketing and Service), Motor India said that the company is confident of maintaining its leadership in the segment this year as well.
“We have the technology, we have the design and we have the products. The company has managed to build a great SUV customer base.
“In the last five years, we have sold over 8.34 lakh SUVs. Hence, we are confident that we should continue to do well as far as the SUV space is concerned. We have a complete range which gives us an advantageous position. holds in,” he noted.
Garg said that the SUV segment continues with its sustained growth and the company is well positioned to lead the segment.
He said the trend towards SUVs in the domestic market will continue as vehicles have become a kind of status symbol for buyers.
“There is also a perception that SUVs are safer. Also, higher ground clearance is an added advantage for driving on any kind of terrain. SUVs also come with a higher seating position which gives better driver control,” Garg elaborated on the reasons for the popularity of the SUV model in the country.
He added that customers are not willing to compromise on the quality of the cars they want to buy in terms of design, features, drive dynamics and this aligns well with Hyundai which is continuously upgrading its model line-up. Is.
“This is the reason why Creta continues to be a leader in the SUV space despite the launch of so many new models in the segment,” Garg said.
He added that the company is sitting on a backlog of over one lakh units, with Creta leading the booking charts.
In 2021, the company sold 1,25,437 units of the model.
Garg said the waiting period for the model has increased due to unprecedented demand and the company is making all efforts to ramp up production.
He added that the company continues to offer its model range with multiple fuel options and powertrains and transmissions thus catering to all kinds of demands of the customers across different segments.

The company sold 1.08 lakh units of Venue and 17,700 units of Alcazar last year since its launch in June 2021.
