The Weeknd takes a dig at the Rolling Stones in new video.

In a new video posted on the official Twitter handle of Canadian rapper and singer The Weeknd, the Starboy singer is seen mocking Rolling Stone after they published an article on his show ‘The Idol’.

Musician The Weeknd has taken a dig at Rolling Stone after the publication shared a report revealing alleged toxicity and creative conflicts on the set of his upcoming series The Idol. The HBO series that marked the acting debut of The Hills hit-maker became embroiled in a controversy after Rolling Stone suggested a drastic plot change took place after Sam Levinson replaced former director Amy Seimitz. While HBO has already issued a statement defending the upcoming show, The Weeknd also mocked the publication by sharing unseen footage from The Idol.

The clip was shared with a sarcastic caption that read, “Rolling Stone did we bug you?” What caught the attention of the fans is that The Weeknd can also be seen mocking them in the scene. The Weeknd, as self-help guru Tedros, can be seen sitting next to Lily-Rose Depp’s Jocelyn when his manager asks the pop star to appear on his cover. “Rolling Stone, Aren’t They A Little Irrelevant?” says The Weeknd. Meanwhile, Lily says, “I don’t know, I think it’s probably past its prime.” The pair then sit down to decide who has gained more followers than Lily’s character. The unseen footage was shared via social media on Wednesday, 2 March.

Soon after the video was shared, scores of netizens took to the comments section to criticize The Weeknd’s return. One social media user commented, “That was a bad idea,” while another said, “Don’t do it on the weekend, shut up!!” A third fan commented, “Compensating more?” Another fan said, “Why would you do this to us.”

In its previous report, the music publication alleged that 13 anonymous members of the show’s cast alleged that The Idol contained disturbing sexually and physically violent scenes between the main characters. One of the crew members reportedly said, “It was like any r**e fantasy any toxic guy would have on the show ‘and then the woman comes back for more because it makes her music sound better’ Is.”

Seemingly, the creative vision had shifted in April when Sam Levinson donned the hat of a director. The HBO series stars Lily-Rose Depp as a rising pop star who suffers a massive breakdown leading to the cancellation of her tour. On her quest to reclaim herself as the sexiest pop idol in America, she becomes embroiled in a complicated relationship with self-help guru The Weeknd. A report in People suggests that the music publication had no knowledge of the unseen footage before it was shared on social media. Idol is slated to premiere this year, though the release date is yet to be confirmed.
