Confusion over Big Tech’s FAANG acronym after Facebook’s meta change

Facebook’s rebranding for Meta Platforms has sparked a search for a new name for the high-flying FAANG big technical abbreviation that also includes Apple, heroine, Netflix and Alphabet (Google)

Facebook announced on Thursday that it is now called meta Platforms such as the social media company shift to building ambitious “metaverses”, a shared virtual environment. The name change comes after a damning whistleblower report and criticism over its market power from lawmakers and regulators.

With the reshuffle, some users came up with Mamta – which would drop Netflix, which has the smallest market cap of $299 billion (about Rs 22.4 lakh crore) compared to the rest of the group, and use “A” for Alphabet, Whose search engine Google gave its “G” to FAANGs.

MAMATA – which includes Microsoft, Apple, Meta, Amazon, Tesla and Alphabet – has a combined market cap of around $10 trillion (approximately Rs 7,49,36,849 crore). They make up a quarter of the weight of the S&P 500, compared to about 20 percent of the legacy FAANG group.

Shares of the meta platform rose nearly 2% in early trading and will get a new ticker, MVRS, on December 1.
