Crimes against women in public places question the credibility of police: Shailjanath

Expressing serious concern over the “increasing crimes against women” in the state, Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Sake Seljanath on Sunday said the state has given up the responsibility of ensuring the safety of women.

Referring to the gang rape of a pregnant woman at Repalle railway station in Guntur district, Shri Seljanath said that such heinous crimes in public places raise serious questions on the credibility of the police department.

“If a woman is not safe in public places like government general hospital and railway station, why are adequate security measures not being taken?” He asked.

The APCC president said the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) government has “failed on all fronts”.

“YSRCP’s tenure is full of failures. Not a single irrigation project has been completed in the last three years,” Mr. Salilajanath said. He accused Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy of “dragging his feet on the Polavaram project”.

He said that any kind of injustice would not be tolerated in relation to the Polavaram project. “The statements of Irrigation Minister Ambati Rambabu are giving rise to doubts whether the project will ever be completed. The villages adjacent to the project site are facing the threat of floods during monsoon. Further delay in the project will hurt the stakeholders,” said Mr. Seljanath.

He demanded that the Chief Minister take up the issue with the Center and ensure that the project is completed at the earliest.
