Making a major focus on women voters in poll-bound Uttarakhand, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra promised an LPG cylinder for Rs 500 if voted to power. Releasing the party’s manifesto here on Wednesday, the Congress general secretary promised 40 per cent priority to women in the Lokayukta office, government jobs and free rides for women in state transport buses.
Reading out some of the promises made in the party’s manifesto, Priyanka said that women have suffered during the Kovid epidemic. The Congress government will give Rs 40,000 to the people affected by Kovid.
Out of 82 lakh voters in Uttarakhand, a little more than 39 lakh are women voters. Priyanka said she was happy that some of the promises were similar to the election promises made by the party in Uttar Pradesh.
“In Uttarakhand, if the Congress government comes to power, the price of LPG cylinder will not exceed Rs 500. The government will ensure that the money paid is deposited in the account (of the connection holder),” the Congress general secretary said while addressing a virtual rally from the state capital.
He promised to give priority to 40 percent women in government jobs and 40 percent reservation for women in the police department. The Congress has also promised to appoint a Lokayukta to look into corruption cases against ministers and others.
In Uttarakhand, polling will be held in the second phase on February 14. The party’s campaign committee head Harish Rawat had earlier told News18, “We have worked out the economics behind the promise of LPG cylinders. This will result in a loss of Rs 750 crore to the government.
Earlier addressing the virtual gathering, Rawat said that the government would provide 100 units of free electricity to consumers and 200 units in the second year in office.
