Congress in deep freezer: Trinamool’s mouthpiece

The ruling party of West Bengal has once again retaliated in the midst of the war of words between the Congress and the Trinamool Congress. Targeted Grand Old Party of the country through an editorial in the party mouthpiece ‘Jago Bangla’, titled “Congress in the Deep Freezer”.

The editorial, published on December 3, refers to a recent tweet by election strategist Prashant Kishor and a recent comment by Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad.

The TMC, which was recruiting disgruntled Congress leaders, reiterated in its mouthpiece ‘Jago Bangla’ that it was determined to fight the BJP. “What TMC is saying time and again is reflected in the words of Ghulam Nabi. TMC has been saying that Congress has failed. There is no UPA. Opposition unity is needed,” the piece said.

Ghulam Nabi Azad recently said that she prays that the Congress wins more than 300 seats in 2024, but she is not seeing that anymore. Mr Kishor had emphasized in a tweet on Thursday, “Let the opposition leadership decide democratically”.

“The views and the space that the #Congress represents is important for a strong opposition. But Congress leadership is not a divine right of an individual, especially when the party has lost more than 90% of the elections in the last 10 years,” the tweet added.

“The country needs the opposition to come together at this time. The opposition parties have given this responsibility to Mamta Banerjee. This is because he is the most accepted and popular face of the opposition,” the editorial said.

This is not the first time that the TMC mouthpiece has targeted the Congress. The story was revealed on the front page of the publication in September this year.

The development assumes significance after the Trinamool Congress president’s recent comments targeting the Congress party. During her visit to Mumbai earlier this week, Ms Banerjee has said there is “no UPA”, sharp reactions from the Congress leadership.
