New Delhi, Sep 14 (IANS)| Before the next Lok Sabha elections, the Congress will prepare a plan for a nationwide agitation to take on the BJP government and highlight other issues including inflation and unemployment. He said it was also suggested that party leader Rahul Gandhi should take over as Congress president and lead the movement.
In the meeting of the Congress Committee constituted by the party president, senior party leaders discussed the issues to be raised during the protests. Sources said the committee headed by Digvijay Singh will prepare the agitation plan after identifying the issues and submit a report to Sonia Gandhi for approval.
Panel members Ripun Bora and Udit Raj also suggested that a senior leader like Rahul Gandhi should take over as party chief and lead protests across the country to succeed him. Raj also suggested that social organizations and civil society groups should be involved in such movements and with their support the protest would be successful.
Sources said price rise and unemployment have been identified as issues to be taken up first, but the timeline will be decided by Sonia Gandhi. Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also attended the meeting held at the party’s “war room” office on Gurdwara Rakab Ganj Road. He also called for raising the issue of plight of MSMEs due to “wrong” economic policies, he said.
