Bangalore (Karnataka) [India]May 23 (ANI): Five-time MLA UT Khadar and senior Congress leader on Tuesday filed his nomination for the post of Karnataka Assembly Speaker.
His candidature will be formalized during the Congress Legislature Party meeting to be held on May 24. If appointed, Khadar will become the first Muslim leader to serve as the Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly.
Khadar, who served as the Deputy Leader of the Opposition when the BJP was in power in the state (2019-2023), was today accompanied by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar as he filed his nomination for the post of Speaker.
Born on October 1, 1969, Khader is a 5-time MLA from Mangaluru and will become the youngest Speaker of the Karnataka State Legislative Assembly if appointed to the post.
