Consider representation of street vendors: High Court

The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has directed the Tiruchi Corporation Commissioner to consider the plea of street vendors running at Chhatiram Bus Stand. He has urged the officials to work in the same premises without any hindrance.

The petitioners – Arun, Manikandan and Shahul Hameed from Tiruchi – sought a direction to the corporation officials not to interfere in their peaceful business at Chhatiram bus stand. According to the petitioners, the authorities were trying to evict them.

Justice Abdul Quddoz directed the municipal commissioner to consider the representation of street vendors and pass the final order in four weeks. The court ordered status quo to be maintained till the final order is passed.

Disposing of the petition filed by the street vendors, the court directed the authorities to consider the fact that they were dependent on their occupation for their livelihood.
