New Delhi:

The National Commission for Minorities has sought a report from the Delhi Chief Secretary on a complaint against former Puducherry Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi for hurting the sentiments of the Sikh community by making fun of her at a book launch event.

Controversy erupted on social media after a video of a former IPS officer making fun of Sikhs at “12 o’clock” at the launch of his book ‘Fearless Governance’ on Monday went viral on social media. Ms Bedi later expressed regret.

The National Commission for Minorities (NCM) in a statement said it has received a complaint against Bedi regarding her mockery on the Sikh community during the release of her book on June 13, 2022.

“Since this has hurt the religious sentiments of Sikhs in the country, Iqbal Singh Lalpura, Chairman, National Commission for Minorities has sought a report from the Chief Secretary of Delhi in this matter,” the NCM statement said.

The NCM said that it would take action on the basis of the report as deemed fit.
