Cooking Tips: How To Make Crispy Murukku (Easy Recipe Inside)

While most of us prefer to buy this South Indian snack from the market, it is best to make fresh Murukku at home. Now you might imagine that making murukku from scratch takes a lot of time and effort. But what if we tell you that you can make this delicious snack right at home? Here we bring you a murukku recipe that will ensure that your murukkus turn out super crispy. Let’s start with the recipe.

Crispy Murukku Recipe: How To Make Crispy Murukku

  • To begin with with the recipe, firstly pressure cook the urad dal for about 3-4 whistles.
  • Once done, take it out in another bowl and mash the dal using a whisk.
  • Now add rice flour, cumin, sesame seeds, celery, asafoetida and butter. Mix everything well to make a soft dough. Keep it hot while adding butter. Adding cold or room temperature butter will not give you the results you want.
  • Make medium sized balls of the dough and stuff them in the Murukku press. Press it firmly to shape the dough into a spiral shape. (Be sure to cover the rest of the dough while doing this.)
  • Heat oil in a pan and drop the murukkus one by one for deep frying. Do not add too much oil and fry them on medium flame for best results.
  • Once done, take them out on a plate covered with a paper towel.
  • Serve and enjoy!
