Couple finds 8-foot python in their home in Australia, Internet says ‘this is its home’

The python weighed between 13 and 17 pounds but was still easy to tame.

A couple in Australia were shocked on Thursday when they found a giant snake staring back at them in their hallway. Jeremy de Haan of Jeremy Reptile Relocation Townsville shared on Facebook a photo of the 8-foot coastal python found inside the couple’s home in Queensland.

“So do you call it a home intruder, or a home intruder deterrent. What was this callout at 10pm, an actual 2.5m carpet python inside a bushland beach house. The owners believe it jumped from the terrace Got in through an exposed fitting downstairs. Kitchen. Although a great home invasion deterrent this guy had to go!” Mr. Jeremy captioned the post.

talking to newsweekMr Jeremy said the snake probably entered the house through the roof, climbing into the house through an exposed ceiling fitting in the kitchen. He said the giant snake did not move for the entire duration of his drive to the property in Queensland.

“It remained in the same laying position in the hallway of the house,” he said, “it was quite quiet.”

According to Mr. Jeremy, the python weighed between 13 and 17 pounds, but was still easy to pick off. “This job requires no tools, gentle tail grab and straight into my catch bag,” he told the outlet. “It took about five seconds from the time I caught the snake to putting it in the bag,” Jeremy said.

The snake expert further said that this species is generally quite peaceful and rarely poses a threat to humans. However, he added that they can have a “nasty bite” to those who try to capture, handle or disturb them.

Mr Jeremy’s post on Facebook received hundreds of likes and comments. One user said, “I will give this noodle the keys to my house. This is his house now.” “No. No. No. I’m going to need an ambulance,” wrote another.

After catching the giant snake, Mr Jeremy said he released the reptile in nearby bushes, a few kilometers from the couple’s home.

Meanwhile, according to newsweekCoastal carpet pythons are a subspecies of carpet pythons found mostly on the east coast of Australia. They are named for the carpet-like camouflage on their scales.

According to the Queensland Department of Environment and Science, carpet pythons can grow up to 13 feet in length, although most do not exceed 8 feet. The species is non-venomous and instead kills prey by constriction.
