Mevani, an independent MLA backed by Congress, was arrested from Gujarat’s Palanpur town on Wednesday night after an FIR was lodged at Kokrajhar police station over his alleged tweets under various sections of the IPC and the IT Act. Mevani was taken from Gujarat to Guwahati on Thursday morning and then taken by road to Kokrajhar, where she was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s court, from where she was remanded to three-day police custody.
