For the second consecutive day on Sunday, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi saw a rise in new COVID-19 cases. Dakshina Kannada also reported one COVID-19 death. 63 new cases were reported.
48 new cases were reported on Saturday. District COVID nodal officer H. Ashok said most of these new cases are students and others who have returned to the district after year-end holidays. Many were asymptomatic and some of them had COVID-19 symptoms.
All the patients were in the recovery stage and preventive measures were taken. He said that the testing is being done at a steady pace.
54 new cases were reported in Udupi on Sunday. 28 new cases were reported on Saturday. It is testing the primary contacts of positive patients revealing new cases.
He said that separate isolation and quarantine facilities have been set up and the patients are in the recovery stage.
With the discharge of eight patients, the number of active cases in the district has gone up to 186.
