COVID Updates: India reports 2,112 new infections; decline in active cases

India reported 2,112 new infections, taking the COVID-19 tally to 4,46,40,748, while the number of active cases came down to 24,043, according to data updated by the Union Health Ministry on Saturday. .

The death toll rose to 5,28,957 with four deaths, including three deaths reconciled by Kerala, data updated at 8 am. One death has been reported from West Bengal in a span of 24 hours.

The health ministry said active cases comprise 0.05 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has risen to 98.76 per cent.

A decrease of 994 cases has been recorded in the number of active COVID-19 cases in the 24-hour period.

The number of active cases stood at 25,037 on Friday.

The daily positivity rate was recorded at 1.01 per cent. According to the health ministry, the weekly positivity rate was recorded at 0.97 per cent.

The number of people cured of the disease rose to 4,40,87,748, while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.18 per cent.

Under the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination campaign, 219.53 crore doses of Covid vaccine have been given, of which 95 crore were second doses and 22.01 crore were precautionary doses. A total of 89.98 crore tests have been conducted so far, the ministry said, adding that 2,09,088 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours.
