Cow urine cleans tank in Karnataka after Dalit woman drinks water

The Tehsildar will now hand over the detailed report to the District Magistrate for further action.

Bengaluru:

So-called upper caste people in a village in Karnataka removed a water tank and ‘purified’ it with cow urine after a Dalit woman allegedly drank water from its tap.

On November 18, a Scheduled Caste woman attending a marriage ceremony at Heggottara village in Karnataka’s Chamarajanagar district drank water from a drinking water tank in an area where so-called upper caste people live . Angered, he drained all the water from the tank and cleaned it cow urine (cow urine), which is considered sacred by some.

“The water tank was cleaned but I can’t confirm whether it was with cow urine,” IE Basavaraj, local jurisdictional tehsildar, told NDTV, adding that no one had seen the woman drinking water from the tank, and she is yet to be traced.

“We are trying to identify and trace him. Once that is done, we will file a case (of discrimination),” Basavaraj said.

There are many tanks in the village on which it is written that everyone can drink water from there.

Local officials took several villagers from the Dalit and Other Backward Class (OBC) communities to all the tanks to drink water.

He said that the Tehsildar will now submit a detailed report to the District Magistrate for further action.
