CPI(M) plans conference on Muslims from May 31

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) will organize a two-day convention of Muslims at the Kudmul Ranga Rao Town Hall here from May 31 to discuss the issues being faced by Muslims.

The open session on May 31 will consider two subjects at 2 pm. They are: Karnataka as a laboratory of communalism and the condition of Muslims in Karnataka.

Chandra Pujari, a retired professor, Kannada University, Hampi, and K. Prakash, a political analyst from Bengaluru, will speak on the first topic, while a journalist B.M. A writer from Hanif and Hosapet, B. Pir will speak the language. on another topic.

Addressing presspersons here on Friday, party’s state committee member Munir Katipalla and party’s Dakshina Kannada unit secretary K Yadav Shetty said former Kerala higher education minister KT Jaleel would inaugurate the event. Conference at 10.15 am

He said that there will be internal sessions on June 1 which will focus on the steps to be taken for the empowerment of Muslims.

Party leaders said the share of Muslims in government jobs, education and land ownership is low. Governments should have uplifted Muslims economically and socially. Instead, they are being communally targeted. Unnecessary controversy is being created about their religious practices, food habits and places of worship. Their business is being stopped. Governments are acting in a partisan manner while distributing compensation to them during natural calamities. Muslims are now feeling unstable and facing insecurity.

The ruling BJP government is promoting communalism to hide its administrative failures. The aim of the conference is to throw light on the real issues facing the Muslims. There is a need to get rid of preconceived notions about Muslims, he added.

He said the slogan of the conference would be “Secularism, Empowerment and Moving Forward”.
