In the erstwhile Medak district, unseasonal rains and hailstorm for the last three days have caused huge damage to the crops of the farmers.
Crops of sugarcane, jowar, paddy, mango, papaya, soy, tomato and potato were damaged in an area of about 1,400 acres in Zaheerabad, Kohir, Nyalkal and Raikode mandals of Sangareddy district alone.
Aminpur received 52.7 mm of rain, Sadashivpet 45 mm, Sangareddy 41.7 mm, Ramachandrapuram 38.3 mm and Patancheru 35.2 mm of rain till Sunday morning. Within three days, Kondapur mandal received 116 mm of rain, the highest this month.
Agriculture Officer Narasimha Rao and Horticulture Officer Sunita visited some places in Zaheerabad and Kohir and prepared a preliminary report which would be sent to higher authorities in Hyderabad for consideration.
Major crop damage has also been reported in Siddipet and Medak districts.
