Maximum crop insurance claims of ₹3,602 crore were registered from Rajasthan, followed by Maharashtra and Haryana during 2020-21.
has fallen by more than 60% crop insurance claims ₹ 9,570 crore of farmers under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) from the previous year for the 2020-21 crop year, as there was no major crop loss, as per the official data.
However, most of the crop insurance claims reported for the crop years 2020-21 and 2019-20 have been cleared by the government.
The crop insurance claim was ₹27,398 crore in the crop year 2019-20 (July-June).
PMFBY was launched in 2016-17 with several improvements over the erstwhile crop insurance schemes. The operational guidelines of the scheme were revised from Rabi 2018 and Kharif 2020 respectively to ensure adequate and timely benefits to the farmers.
As per the data, around 445 lakh hectares of agricultural land was insured by 612 lakh farmers under PMFBY, taking the total sum insured to Rs 1,93,767 crore during 2020-21.
However, the total claims reported were ₹9,570 crore for 2020-21. Out of which the claims for Kharif season were ₹6,779 crore, while from Rabi season ₹2,792 crore.
“The claims of ₹9,570 crore for 2020-21 were quite low as there was no major loss like last year,” an agriculture ministry official said. PTI.
The maximum crop insurance claims during 2020-21 were registered from Rajasthan at ₹3,602 crore, Maharashtra at ₹1,232 crore and Haryana at ₹1,112.8 crore.
About 501 lakh hectares were insured under PMFBY during the crop year 2019-20 by 613 lakh farmers with a total amount of about Rs 2,19,226 crore.
The claims reported from the Kharif season stood at over ₹21,496 crore, while from the Rabi season at ₹5,902 crore for the 2019-20 crop year.
The maximum crop insurance claims during 2020-21 were recorded from Maharashtra ₹6,757 crore, Madhya Pradesh ₹5,992 crore and Rajasthan ₹4,921 crore.
The crop insurance claims of farmers for 2019-20 have almost been settled, the official said. The outstanding claims of Rs 1,200 crore will be settled soon.
About 6,845 crore crop insurance claims of farmers have also been cleared for 2020-21, the official said.
