Telangana Congress President A. Revanth Reddy, Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao to save the farmers as more than 5 lakh acres of crops have been submerged in incessant rains in North Telangana districts and in the absence of any crop insurance scheme or support from the government, they are facing huge financial losses.
In a letter to the Chief Minister, he said that the Telangana government is not releasing any input subsidy to the farmers for the last eight years. He said that KCR showers fake love on farmers but he has no such plan which will secure his crops during sowing or harvesting season.
Mr Reddy said the Telangana government has pulled out of the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bhima Yojana and has not implemented any other insurance scheme for farmers, unlike other states that have launched their own insurance schemes. Since farmers cannot personally insure crops and in the absence of scheme supported by Telangana government, they are facing huge losses every year.
The Congress chief demanded that officials immediately estimate the loss and also wanted the government to announce a compensation of ₹15,000 per acre apart from launching an insurance scheme. Input subsidy should be increased immediately so that farmers can sow fresh seeds.
He criticized the chief minister for indulging in the politics of targeting opposition parties instead of focusing on governance and assured the government’s help to the farmers.
