CRPF jawan becomes ‘elder brother’ at the wedding of martyr’s sister, carry the bride’s veil

The CRPF jawans reached the wedding ceremony of their slain colleague’s sister in Rae Bareli and performed the rituals usually performed by the brothers.

Weddings are an emotional affair that consists of a series of sacred rituals. Recently, a group of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel had attended the wedding of the sister of their slain colleague in Uttar Pradesh. Uniformed men performed duties traditionally performed by brothers, in this case the late constable Shailendra Pratap Singh holding the veil of the bride’s flame and leading it to the mandap. According to a report in India Today, the wedding took place on December 13, 2021 in Rae Bareli. The jawans came as a surprise to the ceremony and showered blessings and gifts on the bride. The official Twitter account of CRPF tweeted heart-wrenching pictures of the wedding with the caption, “Brothers for life: As elder brothers, CRPF jawans attend the wedding ceremony of CT Shailendra Pratap Singh’s sister. CT Sahilendra Pratap Singh of 110 Battalion #CRPF made supreme sacrifice on 05/10/20 while bravely responding to terrorist attack in Pulwama.

Singh was martyred in the line of duty during the Pulwama terror attack in Kashmir in October 2020. India Today quoted a senior official as saying, “The jawans, playing the role of brothers, tried to fill the gap of martyr Shailendra.”

Singh’s father said, ‘My son is no longer in this world but now we have so many sons in the form of CRPF jawans who always stand with us in happiness and sorrow.

Netizens reacted with warmth to this sweet gesture of the jawans.

Another Twitter user shared a video of the ceremony, leaving many in tears. “These people walking with the bride are officers of the Central Reserve Police Force. The bride is the sister of late Shailendra Pratap Singh, who was martyred in 2020. The marriage ceremony was concluded in Uttar Pradesh’s Rae Bareli,” he wrote in the caption.

Singh had joined the CRPF in 2008 and was posted in the 110th battalion of the force.
