The remarks by the head of the University Grants Commission come in the backdrop of complaints raised by candidates regarding the late issuance of admit cards for the examination.

UGC Chairman Jagdish Kumar on Tuesday said that at least 98 per cent candidates appearing for CUET will be allotted exam centers in the city of their choice. The remarks by the head of the University Grants Commission come in the backdrop of complaints raised by the candidates regarding the late issuance of admit cards for the examination.

“The admit cards have been issued four days before the examination for security reasons and to avoid any malpractices in the examination. Students should not be worried, Kumar told PTI. At least 98 percent candidates will get the center in the city of their choice. Those who do not find the allotted center viable can approach the NTA which will consider their requests,” he said.

The Common University Entrance Test, or CUET-UG, will be conducted from July 15 to August 10, the National Testing Agency (NTA) announced last week. Over 11 lakh candidates have registered for the first edition of CUET. NTA released the admit cards for CUET UG on Monday.

“More than 14 lakh candidates have registered for the exam to be conducted in 500 cities. It is a huge task and NTA is a professional exam conducting body. Students should not be worried,” Kumar said. Kumar had announced in March that CUET scores, not Class 12 marks, would be mandatory for admission to 45 central universities and that central universities may decide their own minimum eligibility criteria.

He also clarified that the new system will not harm the students of the state boards and the examination will not promote coaching culture. A total of 44 Central Universities, 12 State Universities, 11 Deemed Universities and 19 Private Universities have applied to participate in the first edition of CUET for UG admissions in the 2022-23 academic session.
