According to data from the Union Health Ministry, the total number of Covid-19 vaccine doses administered in the country crossed 113.61 crore on Wednesday. A total of 61,21,626 vaccine doses were given till 7 pm on Tuesday.
The ministry mentioned that the daily vaccination numbers are expected to increase with the compilation of the final report for the day.
The Ministry underlined that the vaccination exercise is regularly reviewed and monitored at the highest level as a tool to protect the most vulnerable population groups in the country from COVID-19.
The nationwide immunization drive was launched on 16 January with the first phase vaccinating health workers (HCWs). The vaccination of Frontline Workers (FLWs) began on February 2.
The next phase of COVID-19 vaccination began from March 1 for people above 60 years of age and 45 years and above with specified co-morbid conditions.
The country began vaccination for all people over the age of 45 from 1 April.
The government then decided to expand its vaccination campaign by allowing everyone over the age of 18 to be vaccinated from May 1.
