The VW Group company says the Bourne will have an ADAS system designed to identify and reduce incidents with vulnerable road users
Seat’s sports arm Cupra – a VW Group company – has detailed some of the safety systems that will be included in its new Born electric hatchback. A sister model to the VW ID3, the Born will receive the ADAS system and safety technology that the company says is designed to reduce incidents with vulnerable road users such as pedestrians and cyclists.
The Cupra Borne will be equipped with an acoustic vehicle warning system – essentially an auditory warning system designed to make road users aware of the presence of a vehicle. The system is already mandatory on all EVs on sale in Europe, though Cupra says its system will fire the auditory alert at up to 40kph, against the mandatory 20kph.
The exit warning identifies a passing cyclist and a sound warning is given to prevent the occupant from opening the door.
Moving to some ADAS systems, the Cupra Bourne will get Front Assist with Emergency Braking, which is capable of identifying pedestrians and cyclists on the road, among other vehicles. In case of an imminent collision, the system will provide a visual and auditory alert to alert the driver. If the driver does not respond, or the vehicle is too close to the person in its path, the system will slam the brakes at full power. Kapra says the system can detect people crossing the road, people traveling on the side of the road and even people hiding behind an obstacle such as a parked car.

Another safety feature is the exit warning system which recognizes passing road users to warn of danger as they try to exit the vehicle. Kapra says one of the objectives behind the system is to avoid incidents of ‘car doorring’ in which a cyclist is not allowed enough space or time to escape a car’s suddenly open door.
