Cyclone Asani weakened into a depression in Andhra Pradesh on Thursday. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the cyclone is very likely to hover around the same area and weaken into a low pressure area during the next 12 hours.
IMD Rain Alert:
- Light to moderate rain at many places and heavy to very heavy falls at isolated places very likely over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema today. The IMD has also predicted ‘light to moderate rainfall’ at some places over the coastal areas of Odisha and West Bengal.
Wind warning for Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and West Bengal:
- Squally wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph is likely to prevail over the system center and adjoining West-central Bay of Bengal during next 12 hours.
- Squally wind speed reaching 65 kmph gusting to 45-55 kmph very likely over Krishna, East and West Godavari districts of Andhra Pradesh and Yanam in Puducherry during next 12 hours. During the same period, wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is very likely along with adjoining districts of Coastal Andhra Pradesh.
- Squally wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph very likely over Odisha coast during next 12 hours.

- The IMD said that the sea condition is very likely to be very rough over west-central and adjoining north-west Bay of Bengal during 12 hours and will improve thereafter.
