The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Saturday that it is a matter of relief for Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and West Bengal that cyclonic storm Jawad has weakened into a deep depression and is likely to weaken by the time it reaches Puri by Sunday afternoon. . ,
Thereafter, it is very likely to move north-northeastwards along Odisha coast towards West Bengal, lose steam and weaken into a well marked low pressure area during next 24 hours.
The IMD bulletin further said that cyclonic storm Jawad over West Central Bay of Bengal has moved almost northwards with a speed of 9 kmph in the last six hours, weakened into a deep depression which formed on Saturday. It was centered over west-central Gulf at 5.30 pm. Bengal near Lat. 16.9 degrees north and longer. 84.8° East, about 180 km east-southeast of Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), 260 km south of Gopalpur (Odisha), 330 km south-southwest of Puri (Odisha) and 420 km south-south of Paradip (Odisha) in the west.

The weather system is very likely to move north-northeastwards and weaken by Sunday morning and reach Puri around tomorrow afternoon.
Bhubaneswar-based meteorologist Umashankar Das told India Today, “The cyclone will not have any major impact on interior Odisha. We have downgraded Red Alert to Orange Alert. Heavy to very heavy rain is very likely in some coastal districts like Ganjam, Gajapati, Jagatsinghpur and Puri.
