The fast track court hearing the Dadri lynching case adjourned the matter till July 4 as the police were not able to provide adequate security to the daughter of the deceased due to the Bharat Bandh called by the opposition parties.
Mohammad Akhlaq, 55, was lynched to death on September 28, 2015, on suspicion of cow slaughter. The incident triggered a nationwide uproar with major political parties visiting the small village on the outskirts of Greater Noida.
Yusuf Saifi, representing the family of Mohammad Akhlaq, said, “The deceased’s daughter Shaista was to record her statement in the court on Monday. However, the police were not able to provide her adequate security, following which the honorable court will hear on July 4. given the next date.
The deceased’s younger son Danish was also seriously injured in the incident. The elder son of the deceased, Mohammad Sartaj, is a soldier of the Indian Air Force.
Seven years after the lynching, the trial of the case has intensified with the recording of the statement of the victim’s family in the fast track court. The families of the accused had filed a complaint of cow slaughter against the slain Akhlaq and his family and sought a forensic report of the animal’s remains found near the spot. The forensic report had confirmed that the remains belonged to a cow or its progeny.
