26-year-old Shraddha used to work with the accused in Mumbai.
New Delhi:
In a shocking case, a man allegedly strangulated his live-in partner, chopped her body into 35 pieces and dumped it in Delhi’s Mehrauli forest over 18 days, say police sources. Sources say that he used to leave at 2 am every day to dump the body parts.
Aftab Amin Poonawala allegedly strangulated his live-in partner Shraddha to death on May 18. He then cut her body into 35 pieces and bought a fridge to keep them, sources say. He told that in the next 18 days, he disposed of the pieces in different areas of Mehrauli forest.
Shraddha, 26, worked in a call center for a multinational company in Mumbai, where she met Poonawalla. The two started dating and started living together. After her family did not accept their relationship, the couple eloped and came to Delhi. They started living in a flat in Mehrauli.
Soon after, Shraddha stopped answering her family’s phone calls. On November 8, her father Vikas Madan came to Delhi to see her daughter. When he reached the flat, it was locked from inside. He approached the Mehrauli police and lodged a complaint alleging kidnapping.
Based on his complaint, the police arrested Poonawalla on Saturday. Police sources said that during interrogation, he revealed that the two used to fight often as Shraddha wanted to marry him.
Police have registered a case of murder and are searching for Shraddha’s body.
