Bihar spurious liquor tragedy: In Bihar’s Saran district, the death toll due to consumption of spurious liquor is increasing day by day. The death toll rose to 72 with the death of one more person on Sunday.
In view of the tragedy, the Home Department of the Government of Bihar has issued a notification saying that Rajwinder Singh Bhatti, a 1990 batch IPS officer of the Indian Police Service, has been appointed as the new Director General of Police (DGP) of Bihar. , Bhatti was serving as the ADG of the Border Security Force (BSF) Eastern Command.
Earlier in the day, Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij said it was “shameful” for the Bihar Deputy Chief Minister to compare the deaths due to spurious liquor in his state with incidents of spurious liquor in other BJP-ruled states.
Vij said, “The Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar is talking very shamefully. If you have banned liquor then it is a good thing. But it is your responsibility to stop liquor from any state coming into your state.” Responding to the question asked by journalists in Gurugram on Tejashwi Yadav’s statement on the issue of spurious liquor being supplied to Bihar from Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.
Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav said on Friday that action is being taken in the state where liquor consumption incidents are coming to the fore and alleged that most of the liquor is supplied from Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. The remarks came after reports of deaths due to spurious liquor were reported from different parts of the state.
Just a day earlier, a Special Investigation Team arrested liquor baron, Anil Singh on Saturday in connection with the Bihar poisoning tragedy that claimed over 70 lives. Apart from this, 271 liquor traders have also been arrested under Operation Clean.
