India’s fast-growing consumer goods (FMCG) market reported a 16.5 per cent decline in price increases in May 2022 as compared to a month earlier. The rise in prices due to inflation led to a 4% decline in sales of goods compared to the year-ago period. Price-sensitive rural markets are being attributed to the decline in sales volumes. Rural markets declined 11.9% compared to urban markets, falling 8.8%.
