“Deeply Shocked”: ISKCON On Attacks On Devotees In Bangladesh

The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) on Monday urged the Bangladesh government to take strict action against perpetrators of violence, make arrangements for the protection of minorities and restore peace there.

Two ISKCON devotees were among those killed in recent attacks on Hindu temples in the neighboring country and prayers were offered for the departed souls at the order’s global headquarters in Mayapur in West Bengal’s Nadia district during the day.

Vrajvilas Das, Co-Director, ISKCON Mayapur, said, “The worldwide devotees of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) are deeply shocked and saddened by the recent series of violent incidents against the Hindu community including our own ISKCON temples.” in a statement.

It said that over 7000 ISKCON devotees from 82 countries including Australia, France, South Africa, England, USA, Russia, China, Italy, South Korea and Japan gathered at the global headquarters to protest the violence in Bangladesh.

“Many temples, shops and homes were attacked between October 13 and 15. Temples and private properties were ransacked, set on fire and destroyed, and we lost two of our dear devotees. We seek support. We express our gratitude for the recent statements. Hindu community by Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,” Dasa said.

A spokesperson of the organization said that ISKCON has been regularly organizing inter-religious festivals.
