Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday appealed to the people of Delhi to get their COVID-19 vaccine booster dose at the earliest, while highlighting that only 10% of the people here have received the precautionary dose.
In a video statement, Mr Kejriwal said the booster dose is available free of cost and is being administered at government immunization centers and mohalla clinics. He urged all those aged 18 years and above who had had a second vaccine more than six months earlier, to take the time to receive a precautionary dose.
Mr Kejriwal said that around 3.5 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses have been given in Delhi, of which 1.81 crore are first doses while 1.53 crore are second doses. So far, only 18.5 lakh people have been given booster doses.
The CM said, “Many people are not getting the precautionary dose, only about 10% of the people in Delhi have got the precautionary dose.” He especially appealed to all senior citizens, health workers and frontline workers to get vaccinated at the earliest with a precautionary dose.
For those aged 12 to 17, Mr Kejriwal asked parents to get a second vaccine dose for their children. He said that if the school administration requests from the district administration, then camps can be organized for the second dose in the schools.
‘Situation under control’
The CM said the COVID-19 situation in Delhi is now under control.
“The cases have come down significantly. Barring a few, the condition of all the patients getting infected is not serious. Most of them are being treated at home and do not require hospitalization to recover. The deaths due to COVID-19 are close to zero,” Mr Kejriwal said.
The CM said, the government has the capacity to deliver 1 lakh doses per day in Delhi, which includes both private and government facilities. He asked Delhiites to “follow all COVID-19 protocols” and keep using masks.
