Manish Sisodia A special court on Monday sent him to the custody of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for five days. The probe agency had produced the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader in the special court and requested them to file a case against him for five days. After this, Special Judge M.K. Nagpal sent Sisodia to CBI deposit till March 4.
The judge had said that though he has been under investigation on the first two occasions in the matter, it has also been observed that he did not appear to answer most of the reasons raised during the investigation and enquiry. He said that Sisodia has failed to give proper explanation regarding the objectionable statements allegedly made against him during the said investigation so far.
The court said, “Some of his (Sisodia’s) people have disclosed some truths, out of which they can be taken as charges against him and some documentary evidence is also in front of him.”
Delhi Liquor Policy Case: Serious allegations on Sisodia in CBI remand, talk of ‘active role’
The judge said, “It is necessary for proper and fair investigation to get proper and valid answers to the questions put to him and therefore in the opinion of this Court it is possible only by inquiry in the petition of the court.”
“Considering the facts and direction, Sadi is remanded to CBI custody for a period of five days i.e. up to March 4, 2023, for further and detailed interrogation,” he said.
Much more was done inside the Rouge Avenue Court and in terms of security.
The CBI had arrested Sisodia on Sunday evening in connection with alleged corruption in the implementation of the 2021-22 Excise Policy (now cancelled).
During the hearing in the court which lasted for over an hour, Sisodia’s counsel said that the Lt Governor had approved the exposure policy in the excise policy, but the central probe agency is after the elected government.
The AAP leader’s lawyer argued, “I cannot take any decision.” It has to be approved by a suitable resolution.” Sisodia claimed there was no evidence against him and opposed the CBI’s request for his remand.
Keeping his side, Sisodia’s lawyer told the court, “I am the Finance Minister. I have to present the budget… What changed yesterday that the Finance Minister has been detained? Will he not get ahead? Or was this detail done for the purpose of excuse? This case attacks an individual and an institution. (with language)
