Delhi gets relief from heat due to rain in some parts of the national capital

Delhi received heavy rain and thundershowers on Wednesday and parts of the national capital received rain. The city was battling scorching heat and humidity for the last several days and today the people have got a lot of relief from the rain showers.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a Yellow Alert for Delhi today and said, “It will be generally cloudy, with moderate to heavy rain and thundershowers likely.”

Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 28.2 degrees Celsius and a maximum temperature of 31 degrees Celsius today.

According to the weather forecasting agency, during the next five days, Delhi will continue to receive moderate rain and thundershowers till July 25. Incessant rains will result in minor traffic disruption and waterlogging in low-lying areas.

Earlier on Tuesday, parts of the national capital received light rain, giving residents some respite from the sultry weather. However, the maximum temperature was recorded at 37.7 degrees Celsius, three notches above normal.

Flight operations at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport may be affected today Delhi rain in the national capital. The airlines informed the passengers about this on Twitter and requested them to contact the concerned airline for updated flight information.

“#WeatherUpdate: Due to bad weather (heavy rain) in Delhi (DEL), all departures/arrivals and their resultant flights may get affected. Passengers are requested to keep checking their flight status,” SpiceJet tweeted.

Meanwhile, several other Indian states are battling with floods and landslides due to incessant rains. In Uttarakhand, rains caused landslides on various roads, blocking the Rishikesh-Kedarnath highway and 89 rural roads.

Heavy rains are also continuing in parts of Punjab, Haryana, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala. In Kerala, water in six dams is at Red Alert level and in one at Orange Alert level. These include Ponmudi, Kallarkutty, Erattayar, and Lower Periyar in Idukki, Kuttiyadi in Kozhikode and Moozhiyar in Pathanamthitta districts of the state. While an orange alert was declared at Poringalkuthu dam in Thrissur.

Generally, the IMD uses four codes for weather warnings: green (no action required), yellow (watch and stay updated), orange (be prepared) and red (take action).
