Vehicles de-registered in Delhi can be re-registered in states where diesel vehicles older than 10 years are allowed to operate.
Delhi has canceled the registration of diesel vehicles which are more than 10 years old.
The Delhi Transport Ministry has confirmed that the registration of over one lakh old diesel vehicles has been canceled in the national capital. The move comes after the Delhi government’s order not to allow diesel vehicles older than 10 years in the state. Apart from diesel vehicles, the registration of vehicles running on petrol which is more than 15 years old is also being cancelled. In 2016, due to rising pollution levels, the Delhi government amended the Transport Act to reduce the registration period of diesel vehicles in Delhi from 15 years to 10 years, without changing the registration period for petrol-powered vehicles.
Addressing the media, Transport Minister, New Delhi, Kailash Gahlot said, “Public transport in Delhi is running at one-third of its capacity, special environment is increasing the number of buses. As the life of the vehicles increases. Yes, they also start creating pollution. Till now it was the rule that diesel vehicles older than 10 years and petrol vehicles more than 15 years old were not given NOC, but recently we have changed the order Now we are giving NOC to all those vehicles which have completed their life.”
DTC has started inducting electric buses in its fleet.
That said, Gehlot confirmed that de-registered vehicles in Delhi can be re-registered in states where diesel vehicles older than 10 years are allowed to operate. Older vehicles can also be converted into electric vehicles through retrofitting and the government has already invited companies to offer these solutions. The minister further said that four to five companies have already been empaneled for this. As far as NOC is concerned, application for NOC can be done through the website of the Transport Department.
