With an eye on better sales due to higher footfalls, Delhi Excise Department has started opening up liquor shops At the metro station premises, officials were quoted as saying by news agency PTI. More than six liquor shops have been opened in Badarpur, Dwarka, Karol Bagh, Rajouri Garden and Mundka metro station premises.

According to news agency PTI, a senior official of the Excise Department said that government undertakings are approaching Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to get permission to open liquor shops at other stations.

The official said that metro stations attract a large number of people which is a big factor in ensuring greater access to liquor products and thus ensuring more revenue. DMRC has also issued license to Delhi Consumer Cooperative Wholesale Stores Limited (DCCWS) to open liquor shops at more than half a dozen metro stations.

Four Delhi government undertakings – Delhi Tourism and Transport Development Corporation (DTTDC), Delhi State Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC), Delhi Delhi State Civil Supplies Corporation (DSCSC), and DCCWS – have to set up 500 liquor shops across the city by September. Have to open And by the end of the year, they will simultaneously open 200 more stores in the national capital.

According to excise department officials, metro stations offer a good opportunity for better sales due to space availability and more footfall, so DMRC will soon allow other corporations to open liquor shops in the metro premises as well.

The department has already issued around 450 licenses to four corporations and over 350 liquor shops operated by these four agencies are currently operating in the city, as reported by PTI.

The Delhi government in July this year withdrew its Excise Policy 2021-22 after LG VK Saxena recommended a CBI probe into its alleged irregularities and withdrew the old excise regime that was in force before November 17, 2021. .

Meanwhile, officials said Liquor will not be available at IGI’s domestic terminals As soon as the Delhi government agency has been entrusted with the work of running the contracts here, there has not been a place for them yet.

He said the Delhi Tourism and Transport Development Corporation (DTTDC), which has been entrusted with the task, is still looking for a place to open six shops.

Officials said duty-free liquor shops at the airport’s international terminal are operating normally as they are outside the purview of excise duty.

After the licensee was able to open only six out of 10 shops till February 2012-22, the airport sector faced issues even after the product policy 2021-22 came into force in November last year.
