The Delhi High Court on Monday unilaterally proceeded against filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri, scientist Anand Ranganathan, and magazine and news portal Swarajya after no one appeared for them in connection with the 2018 suo motu contempt case.

During the hearing, a bench of Justice Siddharth Mridul and Justice Amit Sharma observed that none of the three appeared before the court despite issuance of notices. Accordingly, the court went ahead with the hearing and listed it for further hearing on March 16.

The case relates to his remarks against Justice S Muralidhar of the High Court, who in 2018 quashed the house arrest order and transit remand of rights activist Gautam Navlakha in the Bhima Koregaon case. Gurumurthy was later dropped from the case after an apology but others, including Agnihotri and Ranganathan, are still defendants.

Earlier also, a contempt notice was sent to Vivek Agnihotri over his tweet which said that Gautam Navlakha was shown leniency on the fact that he was a friend of the judge’s wife.
