Currently, Delhi Metro has about 395 km of operational network in Delhi and NCR. In December 2019, it began work on Phase-IV under which six corridors are proposed.

Although the Metro’s Charan-V plan is in the newborn stages, Kumar said that the new corridors will be selected with the aim of condensing the existing network.

“This will be a mixture of both the deprived and new areas of the existing network. This idea is to develop a dense network so that maximum people can use it, ”Kumar said. “We are working on this with the government (Center and State), as the alignment is to be decided by them.”

Meanwhile, central government sources said that a plan is being prepared for expansion for some existing corridors.

Work on Phase-IV starting in December 2019 is delayed for various reasons including Kovid epidemic.

Of the six corridors in Charan IV, three corridors – Mauzpur to Majlis Park (12.3 km), Krishna Park Extension to Ramakrishna Ashram Marg (26.5 km) and Delhi Aerocity to Tughalakabad (23.6 km) – priority corridor Is.

Kumar said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a small part of a priority corridor (Krishna Park Extension for Ramakrishna Ashram Marg) in January, three corridors are expected to be ready by December 2026.

He said that the remaining three – Indrylok Indraprastha, Lajpat Nagar to Saket G Block and Rithala from Kundali – which was approved by the Union Cabinet last year will be completed by 2029.

The Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for the 26 km long Rithala-to-Kundali Corridor in January before the Delhi assembly elections.
