Delhi Metro to build first integrated flyover-cum-metro bridge structure

Integrated infrastructure to be built on Delhi Metro Pink Line

According to a statement shared by my metro operator Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), Delhi Metro in collaboration with the Public Works Department (PWD) will build the first ever integrated flyover-cum-metro viaduct structure with a vehicular underpass. In North East Delhi, an underpass will be built near Surghat on the Majlis Park-Maujpur corridor of the Delhi Metro Pink Line corridor.

According to metro officials, the PWD flyover and vehicle underpass are part of the proposed elevated road along the Yamuna river parallel to the Ring Road between the Wazirabad Flyover (Signature Bridge) and Ring Road.

Integrated portals will be built on top of which a road flyover and a metro viaduct will be placed. Metro viaduct will be placed on one side of the portal and PWD flyover will be made on the other side for vehicular movement. The underpass under the portal will cater to the movement of vehicles coming from the Outer Ring Road.

On these portals, road flyovers and metro viaducts will be constructed and run parallel to each other for a length of about 450 meters, and a total of 21 portals with an average width of 26 meters and a height of 10 meters. .

The width of the metro viaduct will be 10.5 meters and the road flyover running adjacent and parallel to it will be three-lane with a width of about 10 meters. The proposed PWD flyover will operate next to the existing flyover which is currently operational from Wazirabad to ISBT near Surghat.

DMRC said in its statement that the Delhi Metro Authority will build the portal and metro viaduct over it and the PWD will construct the superstructure for the flyover on the already built portals. The work to be done by the Delhi Metro officials is expected to be completed by 2023.

An integrated structure is coming up on the Majlis Park-Maujpur corridor at Surghat metro station. The 12.098 km long corridor covers eight stations and is fully elevated. The extension of the Pink Line corridor will complete the ring of Majlis Park-Shiv Vihar corridor and will be the country’s first ring metro corridor with a length of about 70 km.
