For this, over 45 employees of Ms Sharma’s unit are working in coordination with district officials to collect data of NGOs, schools, RWAs, BPOs and hospitals spread across 15 police districts, a senior police official said.
“After collecting the required data, each of our staff members will verify those details and approach at least 15 such organizations every day to persuade them to conduct self-defense training programmes,” the official said.
The official said self-defense training boosts the confidence of women and children and prepares them to defend themselves if they do not get immediate help when needed.
Officials said the idea behind this initiative is to provide self-defense training to more and more women and children in the city.
Recently, SPUWAC organized a 15-day training program for the National Association for the Blind at Hauz Khas.
Additional Commissioner of Police (SPUWAC) AV Deshpande said that a total of 30 blind women and girls were given self-defense training and taught to deal with anti-social elements and prevent stalking and attack.
SPUWAC conducts 10-day self-defense training programs and one-day workshops, both in person and online. These programs and workshops are conducted by the unit’s female inspectors trained in martial arts.
