Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Shweta Chauhan said that a case under section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the protesters on Friday and further investigation is on.

On Friday, the DCP had said, “Around 1,500 people had gathered at the mosque for Friday prayers. When the prayers ended peacefully, some people came out, showed placards and started shouting slogans. Later some other people also joined them and the number increased to around 300.

There is always a police deployment during the Friday prayers in Jama Masjid. Within 10 to 15 minutes the protesters were dispersed and the situation is peaceful. Legal action will be taken regarding the incident. We have identified some of the miscreants and our teams are working to identify others.”

Jama Masjid’s Shahi Imam Syed Ahmed Bukhari had distanced himself from the protest saying “no one knows who the protesters were” and demanded action against such people.

Controversy escalated on Sunday over remarks against Prophet Muhammad Protests from countries like Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar and Iranprompted the BJP to suspend Ms Sharma and expel Mr Jindal as the party insisted that it respected all religions.
