Delhi University will reopen from February 17, the decision to reopen came after the Academic Council meeting held on Wednesday, February 9. This has come as a big relief to the students who have been protesting against the reopening of the university for months. , After DDMA’s order to allow universities and colleges in Delhi to function at 100 per cent occupancy, many universities and colleges had opened in Delhi, but DU remained closed till now.
DU Proctor Rajni Abbi told the protesting students that Delhi University will resume classes individually from February 17 and a detailed notification regarding the same will be issued tonight. The decision to reopen DU was announced after nine ABVP activists began a hunger strike in the North Campus of Delhi University to demand the reopening of colleges.
On the late night of 8 February, the students had resorted to an indefinite hunger strike demanding a chakka jam and individual classes. The Delhi University VC has called the protesting students “unnecessarily impatient”. He said that reopening is a big decision and it will be announced after considering many aspects.
